If marketing is the link between brands and consumers, this blog is the link between my marketing mind and you: real insights, practical lessons, student activities, and a clear look at why marketing matters today, more than ever.
I’m Professor Sean Cash, Assistant Professor of Marketing and Assistant Chair for the Division of Business at Friends University. Affectionately known to my students as Cash Money or simply Hey Cash! Over the years, I’ve been a marketer, an entrepreneur, and a professor with one goal: to help the next generation of business leaders see marketing not just as a tactic for anyone to “take care of” but a strategy that is be deployed by a skilled marketing who understands the difference. If anyone tells you marketing doesn’t work, that’s because they don’t know how marketing works. My students know the difference and they know how marketing works.
Why This Blog Exists
When I set out to write my textbook, Modern Marketing: Principles, Practice, and Purpose, I wanted more than a book of definitions and theories. I wanted a guide that felt alive, a resource that connected timeless marketing principles with the digital, AI-driven world my students are stepping into.
This blog, Cash on Marketing Matters, extends that vision. It’s the bridge between classroom and practice, between Wichita and the wider world of business. You’ll find:
Insights from the Textbook: expanded stories, sidebars, and fresh case studies that didn’t fit in print.
Student and Program Spotlights: the innovative projects our marketing students are doing at Friends University, like revitalizing downtown Belle Plaine, KS, selling real ad space on campus for Sales Management, or recommending improvements to Exploration Place in Services Marketing, yeah we did all that.
Best Practices for Marketers Everywhere: practical takeaways for professionals who want to sharpen their skills and stay ahead of trends.
Why I Do What I Do
At the core of my work is one belief: marketing is about people. It’s about understanding what people want and need, what they hope for, how they make choices, and what motivates them to move. That’s true whether you’re a Fortune 500 company, a startup, a local nonprofit, or a college student building your first résumé.
I teach, write, and create content because I want my students, and anyone who stumbles across this blog, to see that marketing isn’t random or abstract. It’s the story of how businesses and communities grow. It’s the spark that makes ideas matter. And when students know their work is being read, shared, and applied beyond the classroom, they rise to the challenge in ways that surprise even themselves.
What’s Next
Every two weeks, I’ll share a new post here. Some will dig into textbook concepts (like how to build brand loyalty in the digital age). Others will spotlight our students’ creative projects (they are writing blogs as I write this post). And some will tackle big-picture trends like AI in marketing or the ethics of advertising in a world that’s always online.
And if you’re short on time? Catch the quick take in Money Clips, short videos that give you the highlights in under a minute.
Because marketing matters. And so do you.
Welcome to the conversation.
