Inside the Art Market: A Must-Attend Event for Wichita Creatives

Every semester, Friends University AIGA Student Chapter hosts an opportunity for students to showcase their work and learn how to market themselves. The community is invited to come support. The AIGA Student Chapter invites students across campus to participate, regardless of their major. This event is treated as a real-world building experience for students.

Each table at the Art Market tells a different story of handmade creativity. Each student has their own unique items. For example, student Emma Grassmeyer has sold handmade earrings and stationery sets, while student Annie Morrison has created keychains and beaded jewelry. Shoppers may also find ornaments, greeting cards, knitted items, bookmarks, clothing, and so much more. Each year there are new items to explore. The Art Market is the perfect place to discover unique, affordable art while supporting student creators and their growth.

The student AIGA Art Market happens twice a year, each with its own seasonal charm. The first Art Market of the school year takes place in November, before Thanksgiving. It features holiday inspired handmade creations, perfect for a personalized gift or a stocking stuffer. The second Art Market takes place in the spring, before Valentines Day. There you will find love themed gifts and custom artwork that make for meaningful gifts. Both Art Markets are perfect for finding one of a kind, meaningful gifts while also helping support students in gaining hands-on experience and learning how to market their work.

In the future, you can look forward to the student AIGA group expanding beyond the two traditional Art Markets. The group is working to introduce smaller pop-up markets throughout the year hosted during various Fine Arts events. These pop-ups will give students even more opportunities to display their work and keep their creativity going year-round.

Whether you are a Friends student, a staff member, alumni, or just a local to Wichita, the Friends University AIGA Art Market is a great way to support local artists who are learning and growing. Mark your calendars, and invite your friends to celebrate the future Art Markets.
